VICTORIA - Alex Gogolev's second period goal stood up as the winner as the Victoria Royals defeated the visiting Vancouver Giants 3-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.
Ben Walker and Brandon Magee also scored for the Royals (2-0-0) while Logan Nelson chipped in with two assists.
Cain Franson and Nathan Burns scored for the Giants (0-2-0), who at one point in the game were down 3-0, and Jackson Houck picked up an assist on both goals.
Patrik Polivka made 23 saves for the victory as Liam Liston turned aside 20 shots in a losing effort.
Victoria went 1 for 4 on the power play while Vancouver failed to score on either of their chances with the man advantage.
