Flames assign Baertschi to AHL
The Calgary Flames on Friday assigned forward Sven Baertschi to Abbotsford of the American Hockey League.

The Calgary Flames on Friday assigned forward Sven Baertschi to Abbotsford of the American Hockey League.

Baertschi, the No. 13 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, had three points in five games for the Flames last season. He had 94 points in 47 games for Portland of the Western Hockey League, one season after getting 85 points in 66 games there.

Also assigned to Abbotsford were Chris Breen, Roman Horak, Bryan Cameron, T.J. Brodie, Carter Bancks, Gaelen Patterson, David Eddy, James Martin, Lance Bouma, Max Reinhart, Ryan Howse, Brady Lamb, Tyler Elson, Ben Street, Greg Nemisz, Michael Ferland and Mitch Wahl.

Joni Ortio was assigned to HIFK Helsinki (Finland SM-Liiga Elite League).
