Defenseman Dougie Hamilton was assigned to his junior team by the Boston Bruins on Friday.

Hamilton, the No. 9 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, was assigned to the Niagara Ice Dogs, and goalie Malcolm Subban, the team's top 2012 draft pick (No. 24), was assigned to the Belleville Bulls. Both teams play in the Ontario Hockey League.

Hamilton, 19, had 72 points in 50 games for Niagara last season and was a plus-37. He added 23 points in 20 playoff games.

According to the Bruins, the following players were assigned to Providence of the American Hockey League: Matt Bartkowski, Ryan Button, Carter Camper, Jordan Caron, Colby Cohen, Tommy Cross, Craig Cunningham, Justin Florek, Michael Hutchinson, Jared Knight, Torey Krug, Kevan Miller, Adam Morrison, Tyler Randell, Max Sauve, Ryan Spooner, Niklas Svedberg, Zach Trotman and David Warsofsky.

The following players cleared waivers and were assigned to Providence: Garnet Exelby, Christian Hanson, Jamie Tardif and Trent Whitfield.

For me, it's a great win for our hockey team and for a lot of people back in Columbus, especially our fans in particular … people who have been devoted to this organization, it's big.
