Ron Francis joins Hurricanes ownership group
Carolina Hurricanes today announced that Hall of Famer Ron Francis, along with four other investor groups, have joined Hurricanes Holdings, LLC in ownership of the team.

Hockey Hall of Famer Ron Francis has acquired a new title -- part owner of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The franchise announced Wednesday that Francis, along with four other investor groups, have joined Hurricanes Holdings LLC in ownership of the team.

"It is very encouraging that these locally based investors feel so strongly about our franchise and its future," Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos said. "We are proud to have this group of prominent North Carolinians involved with our team."

Francis, the fourth-leading scorer in NHL history, spent 16 of his 23 NHL seasons with the Whalers/Hurricanes franchise, and has worked for the team in a variety of front-office and coaching roles since 2006. He currently serves as the club's vice president of hockey operations.

Also joining the ownership group are Eliza Kraft Olander and Brian McHenry of GreengardenDRC LLC. The couple is involved in numerous philanthropies around North Carolina. Ron de Lange, president/CEO of Tekelec, an innovator of mobile Internet solutions, also has invested in the team. The company's headquarters is in Morrisville, N.C.

Quote of the Day

I don't think it's really truly going to sink in until we drop the puck, to be honest. I know there's going to be a lot of smoke and mirrors with the media attention and all that. We came [Monday] and it was sort of a light day to get things organized. We just want to focus in on the business aspect, the game itself. That's what we're preparing to do. Get these next couple of days out of the way and it's game on.
