Coffey, McDonald added to alumni rosters
Hall of Famers Paul Coffey and Lanny McDonald are among the latest additions to the rosters for the upcoming Winter Classic Alumni Showdown.

Hall of Famers Paul Coffey and Lanny McDonald are among the latest additions to the rosters for the upcoming Alumni Showdown, it was announced Thursday.

Coffey will join Mathieu Dandenault and Martin Lapointe as part of the Detroit Red Wings contingent that will face the Toronto Maple Leafs in two games at Comerica Park on New Year's Eve.

The current Wings and Leafs will play in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

McDonald was added to the Leafs roster along with Gary Roberts and Bryan McCabe.

Coffey, Dandenault and Lapointe were teammates on the 1995-96 Red Wings team that set the NHL record with 62 regular-season wins.

Coffey was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004 after scoring 1,531 points in 1,409 games over 20 seasons. Traded to Detroit during the 1992-93 season, he played there through 1995-96.

McDonald. Roberts and McCabe recorded 2,443 points in 4,470 combined career NHL games.

McDonald was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992. He played the first six-plus seasons of his career for Toronto.

The alumni teams will be coached by Scotty Bowman (Detroit) and Pat Quinn (Toronto).

Also on hand for the Red Wings will be forwards Dino Ciccarelli, Alex Delvecchio, Kris Draper, Sergei Fedorov, Joe Kocur, Igor Larionov, Ted Lindsay, Kirk Maltby, Darren McCarty, John Ogrodnick, Mickey Redmond and Luc Robitaille; defensemen Chris Chelios, Viacheslav Fetisov, Mark Howe, Vladimir Konstantinov and Larry Murphy; and goalies Chris Osgood and Mike Vernon.

Maple Leafs participants include Dave Andreychuk, Wendel Clark, Russ Courtnall, Vincent Damphousse, Bill Derlago, Ron Ellis, Doug Gilmour, Gary Leeman, Kevin Maguire, Darryl Sittler and Darcy Tucker; defensemen Dave Ellett, Jim McKenny and Bob McGill; and goalies Jonny Bower, Curtis Joseph, Mike Palmateer and Felix Potvin.
