The Vancouver Canucks announced Thursday they have signed forward Alexandre Mallet, their second-round pick (No. 57) in the 2012 NHL Draft. Terms were not disclosed.
Mallet, 20, recorded 81 points and added 132 penalty minutes in 68 games last season with the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In three seasons with the Oceanic, Mallet has registered 110 points and 272 penalty minutes in 154 games.
In the 2012 QMJHL playoffs, he had 25 points in 21 games to help the seventh-seeded Oceanic to the President Cup finals.
It was definitely emotional. I really appreciated the fans. It was a cool feeling and it felt special and the ovation there at the start and then you kind of feel funny out there standing by yourself. Thinking back, I was saying just a bit ago, you think back just trying to make the NHL and then you kind of reflect on all the years being able to play for a great organization here in Calgary and all the fun I've had so far in my career. I feel very fortunate and blessed.
