Report: Hawks hire former Canadiens GM Gauthier
Former Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier has joined the Chicago Blackhawks as director of player personnel, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

Former Montreal Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier has joined the Chicago Blackhawks as director of player personnel, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

Gauthier was fired by the Canadiens on March 29 after serving as GM since Feb. 8, 2010.

At the time he was let go, the Canadiens were last in the Eastern Conference with a 29-34-14 record. They finished last at 31-35-16.

During the season, Gauthier fired coach Jacques Martin and replaced him with Randy Cunneyworth.

Gauthier was replaced in Montreal by Marc Bergevin, who had been Blackhawks assistant GM under Stan Bowman. Chicago promoted Norm Maciver to assistant GM, creating the opening filled by Gauthier.

Gauthier, 59, also worked in the front office for the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators.

Quote of the Day

I'm hoping Bob [Murray] didn't go out and get Dany Heatley just to get someone. I'm sure he's excited and motivated.
