Lidstrom staying with Red Wings as scout
Nicklas Lidstrom is staying with the Detroit Red Wings as scout.

Nicklas Lidstrom has left the ice, but he's not leaving the Detroit Red Wings.

Wings assistant GM Jim Nill confirmed Sunday that Lidstrom will remain with the organization as a scout, most likely in Europe.

"We haven't really sat down [and determined] to what extent, but he'll be in the organization and do everything he can to help us out," Nill said during a session of the Red Wings' prospects camp. "We might bring him back here. It depends on the situation. His terms. We wanted to keep him in the organization."

Lidstrom retired in May after spending all 20 of his NHL seasons with Red Wings, winning four Stanley Cups and seven Norris trophies.

Quote of the Day

It's about enjoying the moment. It's pretty cool to get that many people together and that excited about hockey to the point they really want you to mess up. They've got a ton of red jerseys and you have to sit back and appreciate people love hockey that much and you are the one out there who gets to play the game. Just try and stick with that respect for the game and also the mentality that for me it's just about entering the fight and seeing how long I can stay in it.
