Team USA announces U-18 Ivan Hlinka roster.

USA Hockey on Tuesday announced the roster for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team that will participate in the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament next month in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Team USA, which has finished in the top three at the Ivan Hlinka tournament 10 times since 1991, will join Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland at the six-day tournament, scheduled for Aug. 13-17.

U.S. UNDER-18 SELECT TEAM

GOALIES -- Thatcher Demko, Omaha Lancers, USHL (2013 draft eligible); Devin Williams, Erie Otters, OHL (2014).

DEFENSEMEN -- Connor Clifton, New Jersey Hitmen, EJHL (2013); Anthony DeAngelo, Sarnia Sting, OHL (2014); Mike Downing, Dubuque Fighting Saints, USHL (2013); R.J. Gicewicz, Nichols School, NY-HS (2014); Teemu Kivihalme, Burnsville, MINN-HS (2013); Parker Reno, Edina, MINN-HS (2013); Tom Vanelli, Minnetonka, MINN-HS (2013).

FORWARDS -- Justin Bailey, Indiana Ice, USHL (2013); Jason Cotton, Colorado Thunderbirds U16, CAHA (2013); Adam Erne, Quebec Remparts, QMJHL (2013); Gabe Guertler, Fargo Force, USHL (2013); Karson Kuhlman, Cloquet, MINN-HS (2014); Vinni Lettieri, Lincoln Stars, USHL (2013); Jimmy Lodge, Saginaw Spirit, OHL (2013); Sean Malone, Nichols School, NY-HS (2013); Drew Melanson, Delbarton, NJ-HS (2013); Trevor Moore, Tri-City Storm, USHL (2013); Andrew Oglevie, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, USHL (2013); Corey Ronan, St. Sebastian's School, MASS-HS (2014); Matt Weis, Green Bay Gamblers, USHL (2013).

The 22-player roster includes 12 players who led the U.S. Under-17 Team to a first-place finish at the 2011 U-17 Five Nations Tournament -- goalies Thatcher Demko and Devin Williams; defensemen Connor Clifton, Anthony DeAngelo, Michael Downing and R.J. Gicewicz; and forwards Adam Erne, Gabe Guertler, Vinni Lettieri, Jimmy Lodge, Trevor Moore and Andrew Oglevie.

Also on the roster is 6-foot-3, 170-pound forward Justin Bailey, who helped lead the Long Island Royals to the Under-16 Tier I national championship in 2011-12. That team was coached by Hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine.

"He's got tremendous quickness and speed to go along with that size," LaFontaine told NHL.com. "He'll continue to fill out as a player, but his puck control and release are something … he's got a big-time shot already."

Bailey, along with 16 other players on the roster, is eligible for the 2013 NHL Draft. He likely will play for the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League in 2012-13.

There are 10 states represented on the U.S. roster, including five players from Minnesota and three each from California, New Jersey and New York.

The team will be coached by Matt Herr, who just finished his seventh season as coach at the Kent School in Connecticut.

The United States opens the tournament Aug. 13 against Russia, and then plays the Czech Republic on Aug. 14 and Finland on Aug. 15. The Hlinka Memorial final is Aug. 18.

Quote of the Day

There's no discouragement in that room. There's no issues there at all to be honest with you. It's more about, 'Hey, it's opportunities for players.' And if we become that bad of a team because of one player, it's not a real good sign for our hockey club. So this is part of sports. It's part of hockey.
