Islanders sign Brad Boyes, Matt Carkner
The New York Islanders and forward Brad Boyes have agreed to terms on a new contract, the team announced Sunday.

The New York Islanders and forward Brad Boyes have agreed to terms on a new contract, the team announced Sunday. The deal is reportedly for one year and $1 million.

Boyes had 23 points in 65 games for the Buffalo Sabres last season. That followed a 21-game, 14-point season, his first in Buffalo.

His career-best season was in 2008-09, when he had 72 points (33 goals, 39 assists) for the St. Louis Blues.

In 558 career games, he has 372 points (158 goals, 214 assists).

Also, the Islanders have signed defenseman Matt Carkner to a three-year contract.

The Colorado Avalanche had announced on their Twitter feed they had agreed to terms with Carkner, which was later denied to reporters by his agent, Larry Kelly. Arthur Staple of Newsday reported the deal is worth $4.5 million.

Carkner played 29 games for the Ottawa Senators last season, with three points and 33 penalty minutes. In 162 games, all with the Senators, he has four goals, 18 assists and 361 PIMs.
