Flames get All-Star D Dennis Wideman from Capitals for 5th-round pick, minor leaguer

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have traded All-Star defenceman Dennis Wideman to the Calgary Flames for a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NHL draft and minor league defenceman Jordan Henry.

Wideman had 11 goals and 35 assists in 82 games for Washington last season. He was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but agreed to a five-year contract with Calgary on Wednesday.

Henry had two goals, nine assists and 97 penalty minutes in 68 games in the AHL last season. He also can enter free agency.

Quote of the Day

Hopefully [Jonathan] has a year that pushes us, that is the organization, to speak to him next summer and looking for [a long-term contract]. Because the thought process is trying to get a goaltender, and hopefully it's Jonathan, to be the stabilizer for this franchise.
