Report: Ralph Krueger to be named Oilers head coach
Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun reported Tuesday that Ralph Krueger, who joined the club as an associate coach last summer, has been promoted to head coach.

It appears as though the Edmonton Oilers won't be going outside the organization for a new head coach.

Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun reported Tuesday that Ralph Krueger, who joined the club as an associate coach last summer, has been promoted to head coach. A press conference is reportedly scheduled for Wednesday morning in Edmonton.

Krueger was most recently the head coach of the Swiss National Team. During his tenure from 1997-2010, he advanced the Swiss National Team Program from 15th to seventh in the IIHF World Rankings.

A native of Winnipeg, Krueger has participated in 12 World Championships and three Olympics.

Prior to joining the Swiss National Team, Krueger was the general manager and head coach of VEU Feldkirch in the Austrian 1st Division from 1991-1998.

Krueger played his major junior hockey in the WCHL with New Westminster and Calgary before playing in the German 1st Division from 1979-1989. He was also part of the German National Team from 1981-1986.

Krueger's promotion fills the last head-coaching vacancy in the League. The Washington Capitals hired New Jersey Devils assistant coach Adam Oates to replace Dale Hunter on Tuesday.
