Canada announces preliminary junior team roster
Hockey Canada announced on Friday the roster of 28 players that will represent Canada in the 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge in August.

There are 13 players on the roster eligible for the upcoming 2012 NHL Draft on June 22-23 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The event, which will take place in Yaroslavl, Russia, on Aug. 9-10, and Halifax, N.S., on Aug. 13-14, will replace Canada's National Junior Team summer development camp. The roster is comprised of three goalies, 10 defensemen and 15 forwards.

The roster includes seven players who won bronze for Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship in Alberta last January, including defensemen Dougie Hamilton of Niagara (OHL), Scott Harrington of London (OHL) and Ryan Murray of Everett (WHL) and forwards Jonathan Huberdeau of Saint John (QMJHL), Boone Jenner of Oshawa (OHL), Mark Scheifele of Barrie (OHL) and Ryan Strome of Niagara (OHL).

Among those 2012 draft-eligible players are goalies Malcolm Subban of Belleville (OHL) and Maxime Lagace of P.E.I. (QMJHL), defensemen Murray, Mathew Dumba of Red Deer (WHL), Cody Ceci of Ottawa (OHL), Morgan Rielly of Moose Jaw (WHL) and Griffin Reinhart of Edmonton (WHL) and forwards Phillip Di Giuseppe of the University of Michigan (CCHA), Charles Hudon of Chicoutimi (QMJHL), Thomas Wilson of Plymouth (OHL), Kevin Roy of Lincoln (USHL), Lukas Sutter of Saskatoon (WHL) and Brendan Leipsic of Portland (WHL). There were also two 2013 draft-eligible players invited -- forwards Sean Monahan of Ottawa (OHL) and Hunter Shinkaruk of Medicine Hat (WHL)

In total, 22 players will be selected to represent Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2012 through Jan. 5, 2013 in Ufa, Russia.
