Sharp, Keith join Canada for World Championship
Chicago Blackhawks teammates Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp have agreed to join Team Canada for the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championship

Chicago Blackhawks teammates Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp have agreed to join Team Canada for the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championship, which begins May 4 in Helsinki and Stockholm. Canada, which will be coached by Brent Sutter, is hoping to improve on two straight quarterfinal-round exits.

The addition of Keith and Sharp adds a veteran presence to a team that has been dominated in years past by players aged 25 or younger. The Chicago teammates also bring a Stanley Cup pedigree to a team that has two more roster spots to fill (one on offense, one on defense) before playing a small series of exhibition games at the end of the month.

Sharp and Keith previously played together on Team Canada at the 2008 World Championship in Halifax and Quebec City, finishing second to Russia. Even with Sharp and Keith on the roster, Canada will feature several returning players from last year’s squad, including John Tavares, Evander Kane, Jeff Skinner, Jordan Eberle, Dion Phaneuf, Andrew Ladd, Marc Methot, and Devan Dubnyk. Canada kicks off the tournament on May 4 at Hartwall Areena in Helsinki against Slovakia.
