Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne has declined an invitation to play for his native Finland at the 2012 IIHF World Championship, a Ducks spokesman confirmed.

Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne has declined an invitation to play for his native Finland at the 2012 IIHF World Championship, a Ducks spokesman confirmed.

Selanne, who turns 42 in July, is considering retirement. The World Championship run May 4-20, and will be held in Stockholm and Helsinki. Selanne was born in Helsinki.

As is his custom, Selanne will return to Finland this summer. He told reporters earlier this month that he will inform Anaheim general manager Bob Murray of his decision on whether he'll retire or play another season in July.

Selanne led the Ducks in scoring this season with 66 points while playing all 82 games.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
