KANATA, Ont. -- The Ottawa Senators will be without their leader Monday night, as captain Daniel Alfredsson will not be in the lineup for Game 3 against the New York Rangers.

Alfredsson took an elbow to the head during Game 2 of this Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series from Rangers rookie Carl Hagelin, who was suspended three games for the infraction.

The 39-year-old took part in the Senators game-day skate, but was ruled out about an hour before faceoff due to a concussion.

The best-of-seven series is tied at 1-1 with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday night at Scotiabank Place.

Quote of the Day

That's a really tough thing to play through; when you finally are thrown out there, the game is fast, intense, every single play matters, you've got to find a way to play through that and make smart plays. So it's a huge testament to [Vermette] and some other individuals in our locker room that are putting their own ego, their own wants and needs aside, and are ready for those opportunities when they do come.
