BRAMPTON, Ont. - Myles Doan scored the eventual winner at 2:42 of the third period and Mark Visentin turned aside 22 shots as the Niagara IceDogs skated to a 3-1 win over the Brampton Battalion on Sunday afternoon.

Niagara now holds a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Alex Friesen opened the scoring for Niagara at 16:44 of the first period, firing a wrist shot past Matej Machovsky.

That score held until Doan’s tally with Sam Carrick trimming the deficit in half at the 10:13 mark of the final period.

David Pacan added an insurance marker with 1:07 remaining in regulation, deflecting a Dougie Hamilton point shot.

“They (Brampton) are a defensive team and we didn’t give them many chances,” said Doan. “We got the lead and were able to shut them down.”

Machovsky turned aside 21 of the 24 shots sent his way.

Niagara went 0-for-2 on the power play while Brampton failed to capitalize on one opportunity with the man advantage.
