Sabres' Foligno named Rookie of the Month
Marcus Foligno of the Buffalo Sabres was named the NHL's Rookie of the Month for March.

Marcus Foligno didn't start March with the Buffalo Sabres, but after the performance he had this month, it's hard to envision him going any place else any time soon.

Foligno, recalled from Rochester of the American Hockey League on March 10, had 11 points and a plus-10 rating in 11 games to earn the NHL's Rookie of the Month award for March.

Foligno has excelled at left wing on a line centered by Tyler Ennis and with Drew Stafford on the right side to carry the Sabres offensively for much of the last month.

He's had a pair of two-goal games and scored the game-winning goal 1:45 into the third period of a 3-1 win against the Minnesota Wild that temporarily put the Sabres into eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

"It's huge to contribute. I didn't have the best game, but it was good to get that goal," Foligno told reporters that night. "Just the way me, Stafford and Ennis have been playing, I don't think I created enough for those guys tonight. But games like that are going to happen, and it was good to rebound and get that one in the third."

For the month, Foligno, Ennis and Stafford combined for 20 goals and 24 assists. That trio has powered the Sabres to a 7-2-2 record since Foligno's arrival.

Quote of the Day

That was something I've been dreaming of, something I've told myself before the third period I was going to do ... It was an amazing feeling. It's hard to describe. I didn't believe it went in at first but when I saw all the reaction and all the fans going crazy and my teammates going crazy, it's just an unbelievable feeling. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know whether to jump or just skate and do a Theo Fleury. I don't think I'm the same caliber player he is so I couldn't do it.
