VANCOUVER -- Cory Schneider was a surprise starter for Vancouver against the Dallas Stars on Friday night after Roberto Luongo left late in the pregame warmup.
Luongo, who made 38 saves in a 1-0 shutout win against Los Angeles in his last start Monday, may have hurt himself while taking the starter's reps late in the warmup, smashing his stick after getting beat by a shot and skating off. But he was on the bench to start the game.
Luongo and Schneider, who is coming off a 43-save, 1-0 shutout of Colorado on Wednesday, have split the last six starts. Schneider is second in the NHL with a .937 save percentage, fourth in the League with a 1.97 goals-against average, and 11-1-1 in 13 starts since Christmas.
The Canucks host Calgary on Saturday. If Schneider plays it will be his sixth start in nine games.
