Wallin to lead Canada at World U-18s
Red Deer Rebels coach Jesse Wallin will coach Canada's entry at the 2012 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.
Red Deer Rebels coach Jesse Wallin will coach Canada's entry at the 2012 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, to be held April 12-22 in Brno and Znojmo, Czech Republic.
 
P.E.I. Rocket coach Gordie Dwyer and Kingston Frontenacs coach Todd Gill were named assistants, and Hockey Canada goaltending coach Ron Tugnutt will be the team's goalie coach.
 
"We are excited today to name Jesse, Gordie, Todd and Ron to our staff for this year's under-18 world championship," said Brad Pascall, vice-president of hockey operations/national teams for Hockey Canada. "All four bring varying experiences from their coaching and playing days, and we're looking forward to watching them help develop Canada's top young players in the Czech Republic."
 
Canada finished fourth last year, losing 5-4 to the U.S. in the semifinals and then 6-4 to Russia in the bronze-medal game.
 
Canada hasn't won a medal at the event since winning the gold medal in 2008. Canada's only other gold medal in the tournament, which dates to 1999, came in 2003.
 
"Any opportunity to work with Hockey Canada is a special one, and as a staff we look forward to getting to the Czech Republic and getting to work," Wallin said. "We're excited to get the team on the ice and begin working towards a third world under-18 gold medal for Canada."
