Oilers' Taylor Hall leaves with concussion
Taylor Hall left Friday's game against Calgary and will not return after being crunched along the boards by Cory Sarich in the first period.

Taylor Hall, the first player taken in the 2010 NHL Draft, left Friday's game against Calgary and did not return after being crunched along the boards by Calgary defenseman Cory Sarich in the first period.

The Oilers said after the game that Hall suffered a concussion and would be evaluated again on Saturday.

Hall started to lose his balance as he approached the half-wall in his own zone -- and just as Sarich stepped up from the right point. Hall was going down as Sarich leveled him and had to be helped off the ice. Sarich received a roughing penalty on the play.

"I was coming in to lay a clean body check and I don't know if he bailed out at the last minute or just lost his footing," Sarich said after Calgary's 3-1 loss. "He was going down before I got to him. It's part of my job to be physical. I try to throw body checks and I try to keep them clean."

Oilers coach Tom Renney said he did not believe the hit was dirty.

"He was coming down to make contact, he wasn't coming to pat him on the back," Renney said. "He was coming down to cream him. He did, but Taylor also slipped. That made it much worse than it could have been.

"It was a clean hit."
