Coyotes' Doan $2,500 by NHL for boarding

NEW YORK (AP) - Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan has been fined $2,500 by the NHL on Friday for boarding Calgary Flames defenseman Mark Giordano during a game.

The fine, the maximum allowed under the league's collective bargaining agreement, was a result of Doan's actions at 7:49 of the first period of Phoenix's 4-1 loss Thursday night at Calgary. Doan was assessed a minor penalty for boarding on the play.

The money collected for the fine goes to the NHL's players' emergency assistance fund.

Quote of the Day

I definitely think going back down helped me, I had a lot of confidence down there, I played a lot of minutes and I think that helped me a lot. With the 37 games up here, that gave me experience as well. I know what it takes to play in the NHL and now it's time for me to show that I'm capable of being a full-time NHL player.
