The Los Angeles Kings on Friday signed veteran defenseman Willie Mitchell to a two-year contract extension.
Kings Insider reports that the deal is worth $7 million. Mitchell signed a two-year, $7 million free-agent deal with the Kings in August 2010.
The 35-year-old has three goals and 12 points along with 32 penalty minutes for the Kings this season, his 12th in the NHL. In 698 regular-season games, Mitchell has scored 27 goals and 114 assists for 141 points, along with 674 penalty minutes and a plus-88 rating. He is 2-7-9 in 51 playoff games.
Mitchell was originally an eighth-round pick (No. 199) by New Jersey in 1996. He came to the NHL with the Devils in 1999-2000 and has also played for Minnesota, Dallas and Vancouver in addition to the Kings.
