Lightning deal Kubina to Flyers
The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded defenseman Pavel Kubina to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday traded defenseman Pavel Kubina to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for minor-league forward Jon Kalinski and two draft picks.

The Lightning will receive a second-round pick from the Flyers in either 2012 or 2013, a pick previously acquired from Florida (Florida's option), as well as the Flyer's own fourth-rounder in 2013.

Kubina, 34, has been a steady two-way presence on the back end during a career that has seen him play two hitches with the Lightning as well as stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Thrashers. He made the 2004 NHL All-Star Game and was a member of the Lightning's Stanley Cup-winning team that spring.

Kubina is in the final year of a two-year contract he signed with the Lightning in 2010 with a reported average value of $3.85 million. He will become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Kubina, who has a no-trade clause, was held out of practice and games this week by the Lightning while they tried to deal him. GM Steve Yzerman asked him for a list of five teams that Kubina would allow a trade to.

It's the second trade by each team in the past three days -- the Bolts dealt center Dominic Moore to San Jose on Thursday in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. That deal came about two hours after the Flyers acquired defenseman Nicklas Grossman from Dallas for two draft picks.

Kalinski has played in 40 games with the AHL Adirondack Phantoms this season, recording nine goals and 12 points, and will be assigned to the Lightning's AHL affiliate in Norfolk. He has played in 233 career AHL games with Adirondack and Philadelphia, registering 35 goals and 83 points with 186 penalty minutes. He has played in 22 career NHL games, all with the Flyers, recording a goal and five points.
