ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Clay Wilson scored in overtime for Abbotsford and added two assists as the Heat edged the Rochester Americans 3-2 on Friday in American Hockey League action
Wilson put the game away for Abbotsford (26-17-3) just 22 seconds into the extra period. Dustin Sylvester and Akim Aliu also scored for the Heat. Leland Irving made 27 saves for the win.
Igor Gongalsky and Paul Szczechura replied for Rochester (20-17-9), while David Leggio stopped 29 shots.
Aliu's goal came on the power play as the Heat went 1-for-4 with the man advantage. The Americans were 0-for-4.
In overtime, Wilson rung a slapshot off the crossbar and into the net just after a penalty assessed to Rochester late in regulation had expired.
Abbotsford struck first on the power play at 7:49 of the opening period for a 1-0 lead, breaking the Heat's scoreless drought that spanned over two full games and 132 minutes of play.
Wilson's wrister was deflected along the way by Aliu and beat Leggio high on the glove side.
Abbotsford doubled its lead at the 7:22 mark of the second, capitalizing on a Rochester turnover while breaking out of the zone.
An errant pass dribbled to Wilson, and the Heat defenceman immediately stepped into a slapshot that was tipped by Sylvester past Leggio.
Rochester to cut its deficit in half with just 53 seconds remaining in the second, as Gongalsky scored his second goal as an Amerk.
Szczechura tied things up 2-2 at 7:35 of the final period, as he deposited a Phil Varone feed from behind the net.
