NEW YORK – New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for boarding Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Blunden in NHL Game No. 755 in Newark on Thursday, Feb. 2, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 18:54 of the first period. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play.
The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
There's no discouragement in that room. There's no issues there at all to be honest with you. It's more about, 'Hey, it's opportunities for players.' And if we become that bad of a team because of one player, it's not a real good sign for our hockey club. So this is part of sports. It's part of hockey.
