Blue Jackets' Boll fined $2,500 for illegal check
NEW YORK -- Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jared Boll has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for an illegal check to the head of San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton in NHL Game No. 748 in San Jose on Tuesday, Jan. 31, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 0:20 of the first period. Boll received a minor penalty under Rule 48 (Illegal Check to the Head).

The fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Quote of the Day

That was something I've been dreaming of, something I've told myself before the third period I was going to do ... It was an amazing feeling. It's hard to describe. I didn't believe it went in at first but when I saw all the reaction and all the fans going crazy and my teammates going crazy, it's just an unbelievable feeling. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know whether to jump or just skate and do a Theo Fleury. I don't think I'm the same caliber player he is so I couldn't do it.
