Toews expected back for Chicago on Tuesday

The injured hand that kept Jonathan Toews out of Chicago's last game and this weekend's All Star Game festivities in Ottawa, probably won't keep the team captain off the ice much longer.

The Hawks pulled off a trade with the Calgary Flames on Friday night that brought veteran center Brendan Morrison to Chicago in exchange for a defense prospect, but Hawks general manager Stan Bowman said that wasn't because of the injury to Toews.

"No, this had nothing to do with it," Bowman said on a conference call Friday night to discuss the Morrison deal. "We'd been talking to Calgary for a while."

As for Toews, Bowman said the plan is still to make next Tuesday's game at rival Vancouver the hopeful return date.

"I haven't gotten an update(on Friday), but Jonathan's doing the treatments and is on target to play Tuesday," Bowman said. "It's one of those short-term things. We expected him to miss the one game, but [there's] no connection between this trade and Jonathan."

Toews centers the Hawks' top line and has a team-high 27 goals to go with 23 assists.
