It took a goal from shootout hero Zach Franko to cool off the Kamloops Blazers.
Franko scored the shootout winner for the second straight game as the Kelowna Rockets beat Kamloops 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday.
The league-leading Blazers saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end, though with the point they were able to stay ahead of the Tri-City Americans for first overall in the Western Conference and the league.
Franko scored his seventh consecutive shootout goal, and is seven for eight so far this season. He also scored the winner in Kelowna’s 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Calgary 7 Brandon 2; Red Deer 4 Vancouver 2; Medicine Hat 6 Prince Albert 5; Tri-City 5 Edmonton 4 (OT); Lethbridge 5 Kootenay 4; and Spokane 4 Everett 2.
Ranford and Madaisky replied for the Blazers (34-10-4).
Brown finished with 23 saves for the Rockets.
Cole Cheveldave made 34 saves for the Blazers.

At Calgary, Brooks Macek recorded his first ever WHL hat trick and added an assist as the Hitmen (28-17-3) thumped Brandon (24-23-3).

At Red Deer, Alta., Charles Inglis scored his 11th goal of the season and assisted on two others as the Rebels (21-21-5) downed Vancouver (28-18-3).

At Medicine Hat, Alta., Hunter Shinkaruk had three goals and an assist as the Tigers (29-16-4) beat Prince Albert (15-30-3) and overcame a four-goal performance from Mark McNeill.
