Bathgate scores shootout winner to lift the Whalers over the Spirit 4-3

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Andy Bathgate scored in the seventh round of the shootout to give the Plymouth Whalers a 4-3 win over the visiting Saginaw Spirit on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Jamie Devane led the Plymouth (27-9-3) attack with two goals and an assist, while Mitchell Heard added the other.

Josh Shalla, Michael Fine and Vince Trocheck scored for Saginaw (17-20-3).

Matt Mahalak made 44 saves for the win as Jake Patterson turned away 32 shots in defeat.

The Whalers were 2 for 6 on the power play while Saginaw failed to score on six opportunities with the man advantage.

Plymouth is currently on a five-game winning streak.
