NEWARK, N.J. - New Jersey Devils forward Adam Henrique has been named the NHL rookie of the month for December.

Henrique led all rookies with 13 points (five goals, eight assists) and he posted a plus-9 rating in 14 games in the month. He edged Ottawa Senators defenceman Jared Cowen (nine points in 13 games), Vancouver Canucks centre Cody Hodgson (eight points in 13 games) and Edmonton Oilers centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (eight points in 10 games) for the award.

Henrique tallied points in 10 games, helping the Devils win 10 of 14. The 21-year-old Brantford, Ont., native is second among rookies in scoring with 10 goals and 18 assists in 34 games.

Quote of the Day

He seemed to thrive on his own and didn't really need any push from me. I certainly don't want to get in the way of the coaches. You see how that goes sometimes. I never really worried about it and just enjoyed the ride.
