Canadiens sign Gorges to six-year extension
The Montreal Canadiens started 2012 by announcing Sunday the team had signed defenseman Josh Gorges to a six-year contract.

Terms of the deal were not released, but ESPN.com is reporting the annual average value is $3.9 million. The 27-year-old blueliner would have become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

In 39 games, this season, Gorges has 1 goal, 10 assists and a plus-6 rating.

In seven NHL seasons with the Sharks and Canadiens, Gorges has 10 goals, 69 points and a plus-18 rating in 403 games.
Quote of the Day

I downplayed the first one because I thought it's just a hockey game. We just want to win the game; it's against our rival and we want the two points. I downplayed it, but now having gone through the first one I look back and say, 'Geez, that was really cool.' I think as I've grown a bit older I've got a lot more appreciation for what we're allowed to do every day.
