Phoenix Coyotes' Raffi Torres fined $2,500 for hit on Colorado's Jan Hejda

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres has been fined US$2,500 by the NHL for a hit on Colorado Avalanche defenceman Jan Hejda.

The hit came at 18:22 of the second period in Colorado's 3-2 over the Coyotes on Thursday night. Torres lowered his shoulder and appeared to hit Hejda on the side of the head.

Hejda lay on the ice for about a minute before being helped to the locker-room.

Torres was not penalized on the play, and infuriated Avalanche coach Joe Sacco screamed at the officials.

Quote of the Day

For our team, as a group, we've never been this far before, and so it's just more lessons learned, and sometimes you have to go to the school of hard knocks to find out what works and what doesn't. We've got a young group. They've played some unreal hockey here to get us this far, and we showed if we're not going to play the proper way, a really, really good hockey team is going to beat you, and that's what they did. It's a lesson learned.
