Selanne not giving up on season
Despite his team sitting 14th in the Western Conference, Teemu Selanne still believes his Anaheim Ducks can be a winning hockey club
Teemu Selanne maintains his positive outlook no matter how dire the situation, and this season surely is testing that optimism.

His Anaheim Ducks entered Tuesday's games 14th in the Western Conference and staring at huge odds to make the playoffs -- they're 11 points behind eighth-place San Jose.

"We've almost tried everything," Selanne said Tuesday in a conference call that was supposed to be about his return to Winnipeg on Saturday, but naturally veered in other directions. "A lot of nights a lot of things are missing. Confidence is the biggest thing. Our team is so fragile right now. One bad mistake and it's in our net … we still believe we have a good team and we can turn this around."

The Ducks brought in Bruce Boudreau to replace Randy Carlyle on Nov. 30, but they're clearly still a work in progress, with four losses in five games under Boudreau, who has mixed up all the lines and brought in some of the club's younger prospects.

"He has done a great job," Selanne said of Boudreau. "A really positive guy. We've been watching a lot of videos … a lot of teaching. We know we can be a good hockey team again. I can't wait until we turn this around … because it has been a tough road."

If Selanne is frustrated over what has happened in this, his 19th and final season, he won't say so. He referred to the challenge ahead for the Ducks and the impending turnaround he feels will happen.

No matter how the season shakes out, Selanne, 41, reiterated that this will be his last go-round.

"We all know it's going to get harder and harder," he said. "I don't know if my knee will hold up. The passion and fun for the game -- that's the only reason I'm still playing … (but) right now I still feel this is it."
