Sabres F Ville Leino suspended for 1 game

NEW YORK (AP) - The NHL has suspended Buffalo Sabres forward Ville Leino one game without pay for elbowing Philadelphia Flyers forward Matt Read.

The incident occurred at 1:32 in the third period of the Flyers' 5-4 overtime victory on Wednesday night. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Leino will miss the Sabres' home game against Florida on Friday night. He will be eligible to return Saturday when Buffalo hosts the New York Rangers.

The NHL announced the discipline on Thursday. Leino will forfeit $24,324.32 in pay.

Quote of the Day

I'm just excited about the opportunity. I've been on the ice earlier than usual and in the weight room, pushing around a little more weights than usual. Every day I go into a workout with a smile on my face and ready to go. When you do have a little more responsibility, you want to take your lunch pail and get ready to work.
