WHL Roundup: A look at Wednesday's games

The Red Deer Rebels' tough season keeps getting worse.

Jon Groenheyde made 27 saves as the Swift Current Broncos beat the Rebels 2-1 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday.

Not only did the Rebels see their winless streak reach 11 games (0-9-2), but they lost starting goaltender Patrik Bartosak to an upper body injury.

Brad Hoban's goal 13 seconds into the second period stood up as the game winner, while defenceman Graeme Craig also scored for Swift Current (13-16-2-1).

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Blazers 6 Silvertips 1; Tri-City 5 Victoria 3; Kelowna 5 Lethbridge 2; and Prince George 4 Portland 3 (OT).

At Swift Current,Sask., Turner Elson scored for Red Deer (14-13-3), which has plummeted to ninth in the Eastern Conference, just two points ahead of the Broncos.

Bartosak left the game with 2:46 left in the second period after stopping 24 of 26 shots. Bolton Pouliot completed the game in Red Deer's net, turning aside all six shots he faced.

Blazers 6 Silvertips 1

At Kamloops, B.C., the Blazers (21-7-1) scored five power-play goals and added another one short-handed in a rout of Everett (5-19-5).

Americans 5 Royals 3

At Victoria, Connor Rankin scored two goals and Mason Wilgosh added three assists as Tri-City (23-7-0) beat the Royals (12-18-2).

Rockets 5 Hurricanes 2

At Kelowna, B.C., Brett Bulmer had a goal and two assists and Adam Brown made 21 saves as the Rockets (12-14-3) defeated Lethbridge (10-21-1).

Cougars 4 Winterhawks 3 (OT)

At Prince George, B.C., Greg Fraser scored his second of the game in overtime and Drew Owsley made 39 saves as the Cougars (10-19-2) beat Portland (20-9-3).
