Moulson, O'Reilly, Quick named as 'Three Stars'

With a scorching performance last week, New York Islanders forward Matt Moulson on Monday was named the NHL's First Star of the Week.

Colorado Avalanche center Ryan O'Reilly was named the Second Star of the Week, and Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was named the Third Star.

Moulson scored 6 goals in three games, including a single-game high 4 goals Saturday against the Dallas Stars. He also had an assist, and extended his point-scoring streak to four straight.

He started his week by scoring the game's first goal in last Tuesday's 2-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres, and followed that with a goal and an assist in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Then came his big game Saturday against the Stars. His fourth goal, which came with 3:50 left in regulation, gave the Islanders a 5-4 victory.

"Guys have those nights and tonight was his night," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said Saturday. "He works extremely hard. I thought that line really carried us tonight. It was a total team effort, there was no question but that line was real good."

O'Reilly also had an outstanding offensive week, with 7 points in four games, including three-straight games with at least 2 points.

After going scoreless against Dallas on Monday, O'Reilly had a goal and 2 assists in the Avalanche's 6-1 win against the New Jersey Devils. Two nights later against the St. Louis Blues, his goal at 9:34 of the third period tied the game and then he scored the shootout winner to lead the Avs to a 3-2 win. He finished his week with the second 2-goal game of his NHL career in a 4-2 win against the Red Wings on Sunday.

"He's been doing this for a while now," coach Joe Sacco said of O'Reilly after Saturday's game. "He's been playing really well. The kid's been showing signs and emerging as one of the top players. His line with (Milan) Hejduk and (Gabriel) Landeskog, they seem to be fitting well together. I've liked the way they've played."

O'Reilly, best known for his defensive skills, leads the Avs with 15 assists and 21 points.

Quick earned his honor for allowing one goal in two starts last week. On Monday he stopped all 33 shots the San Jose Sharks threw at him in a 2-0 win. The shutout was his League-high fourth of the season. Then on Thursday he made a season-high 41 saves in the Kings' 2-1 win against the visiting Florida Panthers.

The victory improves Quick to 8-1-2 (including playoffs) in his NHL career when he faces 40 or more shots.
