Turris makes season debut for Coyotes
WINNIPEG -- Nearly eight weeks into the season, Kyle Turris finally took the ice for the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old center, who missed the first six weeks of the regular season in a contract dispute with Phoenix management, made his season debut with the Coyotes against the Jets nine days after agreeing to a multiyear deal.

Considerable speculation existed before the game as to whether Turris would dress, but coach Dave Tippett opted to insert Turris in place of Kyle Chipchura. Turris centered a line with Raffi Torres and Patrick O'Sullivan and finished with four shots on goal in 11:58 of ice time in a 1-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Turris also went 6-for-6 in the faceoff circle and saw four third-period shifts in a one-goal game.

"I felt good," Turris said. "As the game went on, I felt better and better and got my timing down. I started getting more and more comfortable and confident."

The third selection in the 2007 NHL Draft, Turris is still trying to establish himself as an everyday NHL forward. He scored 11 goals in 65 games with Phoenix in 2010-11, in his second full NHL season.

The next step for Turris remains to be determined.

"It's too bad he couldn't get [a goal] in his first game," Tippett said. "We'll evaluate where he's at and see where he goes from now."
