According to multiple media reports, the New York Rangers on Monday have recalled forward Sean Avery from their American Hockey League affiliate.
Prior to rejoining the team, Avery must clear re-entry waivers. For a 24-hour period that starts at noon ET the day of the announcement, any team in the League can claim Avery and then will be responsible for half the value of his current contract.
The Rangers had placed Avery on waivers Oct. 4, just before the team started its season in Europe. He cleared waivers and the next day was assigned to the Connecticut Whale, the Rangers' AHL club.
In two AHL games, Avery had 1 goal, a plus-1 rating and seven penalty minutes.
If Avery clears re-entry waivers, the soonest he could play for them would be Nov. 3 at home against the Anaheim Ducks.
