Jets return 1st-round pick Scheifele back juniors

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) - The Winnipeg Jets are sending Mark Scheifele back to juniors.

The Jets assigned the 18-year-old Scheifele, the No. 7 pick in this year's draft, to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League on Sunday. The center played in seven games with Winnipeg this season.

Scheifele scored his first NHL goal on Wednesday at Toronto, but played just over seven minutes in the Jets' 5-3 win over Carolina on Saturday.

Scheifele led OHL rookies last season with 53 assists. He also had 22 goals in 66 games.

Quote of the Day

I don't think it's really truly going to sink in until we drop the puck, to be honest. I know there's going to be a lot of smoke and mirrors with the media attention and all that. We came [Monday] and it was sort of a light day to get things organized. We just want to focus in on the business aspect, the game itself. That's what we're preparing to do. Get these next couple of days out of the way and it's game on.
