Schumacher leads Sault Ste. Marie with three points in win over Owen Sound

OWEN SOUND, Ont. - Swedish rookie Michael Schumacher scored two goals and added an assist as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds beat the Owen Sound Attack by a score of 7-4 Saturday night in Owen Sound.

Andrew Fritsch, Brett Findlay, Nick Cousins, Brandon Alderson and Michael Kantor also scored for the Greyhounds (8-4-0).

Gemel Smith led the way for the Attack (6-8-0) collecting one goal and three assists while Mike Halmo, Joseph Blandisi and Cameron Brace each added singles.

Matt Murray turned aside 28 shots for the win, while Jordan Binnington made 27 saves in the loss.

Sault Ste. Marie had a commanding 5-1 lead midway through the game but Owen Sound scored three unanswered goals to cut the Greyhounds lead to one after two periods.

Two goals scored early in the third period by the Greyhounds stopped any possibility of the Attack making a comeback and solidified their eighth victory of the season.

The Greyhounds continue their road trip in Guelph on Sunday afternoon, while Owen Sound hosts Sudbury.
