Maple Leafs' Reimer leaves after collision

Toronto lost its starting goaltender when James Reimer was clipped in the jaw during a collision with Montreal forward Brian Gionta early in the first period of Saturday night's game.

Gionta came through the creased and connected with Reimer's head just 1:15 into the game, knocking him down and knocking his helmet off. Reimer appeared to be dazed but finished the period. However, when the teams came out for the second period, backup Jonas Gustavsson was in goal. Gustavsson got credit for the victory when the Leafs won 5-4 in overtime.

Leafs coach Ron Wilson said after the game that Reimer "didn't feel right" during the intermission, but added that the injury did not appear to be serious. Wilson said he didn't know if Reimer would be ready to start Monday night in Philadelphia.

"He got an elbow to the head and felt like I guess you could call it whiplash-type symptoms,” Wilson said. “He could have finished the game, but this early in the season we didn't want to risk it.”
