NHL Network doubleheader highlights busy Saturday

Hockey fans in the United States can enjoy a doubleheader on the NHL Network as part of the second 14-game Saturday in as many weeks.

The action gets under way at 4 p.m. ET when the Vancouver Canucks host the Minnesota Wild in the opener of the NHL Network twin bill. The Canucks whipped Nashville 5-1 on Thursday, the same night the Wild lost 2-1 at Edmonton in a shootout. Also at 4, the Predators move on to Calgary, where the Flames will try to bounce back from Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Rangers.

Eight more games get under way at 7 p.m. ET -- including the second half of the NHL Network doubleheader, which features a battle of unbeaten teams. Detroit comes into the Verizon Center in Washington with a 5-0-0 mark after Friday's 5-2 win against Columbus, while the Capitals are 6-0-0 following their 5-2 win at Philadelphia on Thursday.

CBC's Hockey Night in Canada will be in Montreal for the game between the Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. Both teams are coming off losses on Thursday -- Montreal was beaten 3-1 in Pittsburgh and the Leafs fell 6-2 at Boston. CBC will also show the Columbus-Ottawa and Carolina-Winnipeg games regionally in Canada.

Also at 7, the Flyers try to bounce back after their loss to the Caps when they host St. Louis. Pittsburgh hosts New Jersey, a 3-2 shootout loser at home to San Jose on Friday. The Sharks move on to Boston, while the Buffalo Sabres, a 3-0 winner at Florida on Thursday, visit Tampa Bay.

A half-hour later, the Panthers are back in action against the New York Islanders, who will try to bounce back from Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Lightning.

At 8:30 p.m. ET, the Chicago Blackhawks host Colorado in the back half of a home-and-home. The Hawks beat the Avs 3-1 in Denver on Thursday to win the front end.

The second half of the Hockey Night in Canada doubleheader on CBC starts at 10 p.m. ET, when the New York Rangers continue their Western Canada trip with a visit to Edmonton. The last game of the night matches Pacific Division rivals Dallas and Los Angeles at the Staples Center, beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET.
