In 46 NHL games, the Moscow native has six goals and 14 points.

The club announced Thursday that Foster, who recently had surgery to address inflammation in his left thigh related to leg surgery from March 2008, will play in the minors in anticipation of an eventual return to the Ducks. The 29-year-old posted eight goals and 22 points in 74 games with the Edmonton Oilers last season.

Foster came to the Ducks in an offseason trade that sent Andy Sutton to Edmonton.

Stars activate Glennie, send him to AHL -- Dallas activated forward Scott Glennie from Injured Reserve and assigned him to AHL Texas Stars.

The Stars placed Glennie on injured reserve on Oct. 3 with an upper-body injury. Dallas drafted Glennie with the eighth pick in the 2009 Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder totaled 121 goals and 308 points in 252 games with Brandon of the Western Hockey League, then turned pro last spring with Texas, scoring one goal in four regular-season games and one in six playoff appearances.

Jackets recall Giroux -- The winless Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday recalled forward Alexandre Giroux from the Springfield Falcons, their AHL farm team.

Giroux, 30, has one goal and one assist in two games with Springfield this season. He has five goals, 11 points and 18 penalty minutes in 39 career NHL games with Edmonton, Washington and the New York Rangers during his 10-year pro career, including 1-1-2 and two penalty minutes in eight games with the Oilers in 2010-11. He added 32 goals and 78 points with 63 PIM in 70 games with Oklahoma City, Edmonton’s AHL affiliate, last season.

Giroux led Hershey, Washington's AHL affiliate, to consecutive Calder Cups in 2009 and 2010. He has 340 goals, 650 points and 837 PIM in 706 career NHL games.

To make room, the Jackets sent rookie Cam Atkinson to Springfield. The 22-year-old has appeared in four games with the Blue Jackets this season and scored his first NHL goal against Vancouver on Monday. He made his NHL debut with the club Oct. 7 against Nashville.

Habs' White has hernia surgery -- Montreal defenseman Ryan White underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia. The Canadiens say he will be out indefinitely.

White, 23, suffered the injury during training camp. He did not play in any of Montreal's preseason games and didn't dress for either of Montreal's first two regular-season games.

White played 27 games for the Canadiens in 2010-11, going 2-3-5 with 38 penalty minutes.
