Malkin sits out against Oilers

The Pittsburgh Penguins were forced to play Sunday night without star center Evgeni Malkin, who is hampered by a lower-body injury.

Malkin, who had a goal and an assist in Pittsburgh's first two games -- both victories -- suffered the injury during Saturday's 5-3 win at Calgary. He participated in the Pens' pre-game skate Sunday night at Edmonton, but was declared unable to play.

Malkin saw limited ice time in the third period against the Flames. After the game, Pens coach Dan Bylsma said Malkin was "a little sore."

Bylsma will update Malkin's condition after Sunday's game.
