MANCHESTER, N.H. - Centre Riley Holzapfel scored the lone goal of the game as the St. John's IceCaps beat the Manchester Monarchs 1-0 in American Hockey League action Saturday night.

IceCaps goaltender Peter Mannino earned his first win of the season with 23 saves.

St. John's (2-0-0) leads the Atlantic Division with four points. Manchester (1-1-0) is tied for second place in the Atlantic Division with two points.

"Defensively they were good and we were too," said Monarchs head coach Mark Morris. "We didn't generate enough offence tonight. You have to give their goaltender credit. He made big saves at big times tonight."

At 3:58 of the first period, defenceman Zach Redmond’s slap pass was redirected off the stick of Holzapfel at the Monarchs' net and slipped past goaltender Martin Jones. Defenceman Mark Flood assisted on the power-play goal.

Jones stopped 22 of 23 shots.
