Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby to start season on injured reserve

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby will open the NHL season on the injured list.

The team placed Crosby on the injured list Monday, a move that was a technicality since the former MVP had not been activated since his season ended prematurely last January.

Crosby, who is continuing to recover from concussion-like symptoms, has been skating with the Penguins since training camp opened but has not yet been cleared for contact.

He could be activated at any time, as he's already served the required week on the injured list under NHL rules.

The Penguins open the season on Thursday at Vancouver.

Quote of the Day

We have no doubt how he can play. You don't, with four teams that are left, you're not getting here without good goaltending. All great goalies left, and [Bishop] is a top-tier goaltender in this league and he's shown it.
