Oil Kings score three early goals, cruise to 4-1 win over Raiders

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - The Edmonton Oil Kings scored three first-period goals and cruised to a 4-1 win over the Prince Albert Raiders in Western Hockey League action Wednesday.

Martin Gernat, Dylan Wruck and Rhett Rachinski all scored in the first to give the Oil Kings (1-0-1) a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Oil Kings centre, Michael St. Croix also scored his hirst career WHL goal for Edmonton.

The Raiders (0-3-0) were held to just six shots on goal in the first period and didn’t manage to solve Oil Kings' netminder Laurent Brossoit until Justin Maylan scored midway through the third period.

That was Prince Albert's only goal on six power play opportunities.

Prince Albert goaltender Cole Holowenko made 36 saves in his first start of the season.

Broissoit was also strong, making 30 stops for the Oil Kings.

The Raiders travel to Moose Jaw on Sept. 30, while the Oil Kings host the Medicine Hat Tigers the same night.
