Wisniewski out preseason, 1st 8 games

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason and eight regular-season games for a hit to the head of Minnesota forward Cal Clutterbuck.

The NHL announced the suspension on Monday night.

Wisniewski was suspended for the high hit on Clutterbuck at the conclusion of play in the preseason game on Sept. 23 in Minnesota.

"He targets Clutterbuck's head ... and (Clutterbuck) is defenseless," NHL senior vice president of safety, Brendan Shanahan said. Shanahan also singled out Wisniewski as a repeat offender.

Wisniewski is eligible to return to the Blue Jackets lineup against Detroit on Oct. 25.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.
