NHL Preseason Capsules

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists, and the Pittsburgh Penguins scored four power-play goals in a 4-1 preseason win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.

Defenseman Joseph Morrow, Pittsburgh's first-round draft choice, had a goal and an assist. Pascal Dupuis and Brian Strait also scored for the Penguins, who have won all three of their preseason games. Brad Thiessen made 16 saves.

Eric Nystrom had a third-period goal for the Wild, who had won their first three preseason games.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Mark Streit, Matt Moulson and Frans Nielsen had three points each, and the New York Islanders beat New Jersey.

Moulson scored twice and assisted on a first-period goal by Streit, the Islanders' new captain. Nielsen, Kyle Okposo, and Steve Staios also added goals for New York. Eight Islanders had at least one point.

Al Montoya and Kevin Poulin both played half the game in the nets for the Islanders (1-1). Montoya allowed one goal on nine shots. Poulin turned away 14 of 15 shots.

Nick Palmieri and Mattias Tedenby scored for the Devils (1-2), and Johan Hedberg allowed six goals on 26 shots while playing the entire game.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) - Mattias Ritola and Teddy Purcell scored nine seconds apart in the third period and Tampa Bay beat Florida.

Pavel Kubina, Brett Connolly, and Tom Pyatt also scored for Tampa Bay. Mathieu Garon stopped 24 shots.

David Booth, Kris Versteeg, and Tomas Kopecky scored for Florida. Jose Theodore had 25 saves.

The Lightning took a 4-3 lead at 14:40 of the third when Steve Downie passed the puck to Ritola, who poked in a shot from the crease. Seconds later, the Lightning stretched their lead when the puck caromed in off of Purcell.

Tampa Bay had tied it 3-all on Pyatt's goal at 9:01 of the third.

DALLAS (AP) - Michael Ryder had a power-play goal, and rookie Matt Fraser also scored to lift Dallas over St. Louis.

Ryder, signed as a free agent after winning the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins, connected on a one-timer off a feed from Loui Eriksson at 10:31 of the first period. Fraser struck on a rebound at 10:15 of the second to give Dallas (3-0) a 2-0 edge.

Andy McDonald scored for the Blues (3-2) at 11:51 of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Raymond Sawada restored Dallas' two-goal lead at 2:10 of the third. Alex Steen's short-handed goal with 22.9 seconds left brought the Blues back within one.

Kari Lehtonen stopped 11 shots for Dallas before he was relieved by Andrew Raycroft midway through the second.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Christian Ehrhoff scored his second goal of the preseason, and Buffalo held on to beat Toronto.

Ehrhoff, Drew Stafford and Luke Adam all scored power-play goals for the Sabres (4-0).

Mikhail Grabovski scored a pair of rebound goals, and Matt Frattin added two assists, but it wasn't enough for Toronto (2-3).

Buffalo's Jhonas Enroth made 19 saves. Jonas Gustavsson stopped 34 shots for Toronto.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Sergei Kostitsyn, Martin Erat and Patric Hornqvist scored consecutive power-play goals as Nashville topped Winnipeg.

The Predators, playing their first game at home, have won three in a row. Winnipeg has dropped two straight.

Spencer Machacek, Paul Postma and Derek Meech had goals for Winnipeg.

Jordin Tootoo also scored for Nashville.

The Jets jumped ahead 2-0 in the first period against Chet Pickard, who made seven saves.

Nashville scored four goals in the second period, three on the power play, against goalie Chris Mason.

Shea Weber and Ryan Suter both had a pair of assists for the Predators.

MONTREAL (AP) - Chris Neil scored twice in the third period, including the winner with 27.3 seconds left, to give Ottawa a preseason win over Montreal.

Neil tied it at 2 at 8:57 when his centering pass went in off Montreal defenseman Jeff Woywitka. Milan Michalek scored late in the second as the Senators overcame a 2-0 deficit to split back-to-back preseason games between the teams.

Michael Cammalleri scored goals 2:39 apart in the second period for the Canadiens, who erased a three-goal deficit in a 4-3 shootout win Friday at Ottawa.

Robin Lehner stopped 22 shots for the Senators (2-1-1).

Montreal's Carey Price made 25 saves.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Benn Ferriero scored a power-play goal late in the third period and Harri Sateri stopped 28 shots in San Jose's victory over Phoenix.

Ferriero was standing in front of the net when he grabbed a rebound of Logan Couture's shot and put the puck past goalie Jason LaBarbera with 4:11 remaining. San Jose (3-0) had failed on its first five power plays.

LaBarbera made 29 saves for Phoenix (2-2), which was outshot 30-28. The teams combined for only seven shots in the second period.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Jonas Hiller returned after missing six months because of vertigo and stopped all 21 shots he faced through two periods to lead Anaheim past Vancouver.

Hiller, who hadn't played since March 24, made a handful of great saves before being replaced by Jeff Deslauriers to start the third. He threw out his right pad to take a tap-in away from Victor Oreskovich late in the first, and robbed Maxim Lapierre with his blocker and glove in the second frame.

Saku Koivu opened the scoring late in the first, Cam Fowler doubled the lead midway through the second, and Corey Perry and Andrew Gordon scored 54 seconds apart before the period ended for the Ducks (1-3).

Kevin Connauton beat Deslauriers during a power play with 7:05 left.

Vancouver (2-2) again sat its top players, using only a couple of regulars and backup goalie Cory Schneider, who made 19 saves.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Taylor Hall scored with 1:17 remaining in the third period and Edmonton beat Calgary.

With the game tied 1-1, No. 1 draft pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins got a shot toward the net that hit a Flames defender and ended up on Hall's stick in front.

Ryan Jones also scored for the Oilers.

Rene Bourque scored for the Flames in the second period.

The Oilers tied it at 1 with just 7 seconds remaining in the second when Jones got to a loose puck and scored a short-handed goal on a backhand through Leland Irving's legs.
